Since the update my screen stops responding and turns purple with black lines from top to bottom. It'll stay there awhile and through reboots sometimes lasting minutes at a time. The phone isn't damaged in any way and the update is the only recent change. How do I fix it?

Sounds like a display hardware problem. I would suggest contacting Motorola directly for your warranty repair or replacement options.
