I don't have a sense of the life cycle of phones and I can't really afford to not have certain apps I commonly use on my DroidX. So, when Verizon said they would replace my slightly crippled Droid X (charger port doesn't charge) I agreed to give it a try. The Stratosphere arrived today and I'm seriously considering sending it back and living with my crippled DroidX simply because the apps I need for work don't work. I don't have a sense of the life cycle of phones and I can't really afford to not have certain apps I commonly use on my DroidX. Not just a few, most of the apps I purchased for my Droid X simply won't install. I presume this is because the Stratosphere is a new device. That would be an explanation not an excuse. When can I reasonably expect my apps to be Stratosphere friendly?
This failure is compounded by the fact that the Stratosphere requires a new car mount and there is, as yet, not otterbox or similar shock-proof and waterproof protector for the device. Verizon generously agreed to send me a car kit but they told me I'd have to find my own "hardening" technology. An hour on the internet produced no useful shock and water resistant container that allowed the phone to be used in a hostile environment. The time it would cost to Craig list an otterbox, extra batteries, and a car mount for my DroidX pretty well negates any money to be made there.
My question to this group, then, is whether I should just live with the need to swap batteries increasingly frequently or be patient. Does anybody have a sense of the lag time between phone release an app adaptation?
