How to prevent someone else from using my cell number

I've received two return calls from strangers claiming that I'd just called them.  When I say I haven't they don't believe me but then they can't see my recent activity for the absence of their number other than there call in.  <sigh> Is there a way to prevent <????> dialers from using your number?

i'd say you were being spoofed & they were cold calling to sell you something!!!
