LG Spectrum and ICS

Just finished downloaded ICS, which comes in two parts. Now I have an LG Spectrum door stop. I have no homescreen, no apps, no menu, and just now got my 4G. Any suggestions, anyone? Please, don't tell me to do a factory reset. I would if I could, but I have no menu. I've pulled the battery. I've pulled the SD card. I've pulled my hair. These didn't work. Anything else I can try. I would like to get my menu to do a factory reset.

It's sad to see you are having issues with the update and pulling your hair and what not - but I am not surprised. Did you by any chance perform a factory reset BEFORE downloading the update?

Anyway, at this point it doesn't matter. Try this: pull the battery out -> Put it back -> while pressing the volume down button, press and hold the power button -> keep pressing both the buttons until the screen shows "permanently erase" or something similar. You should be able to do a factory reset at this point.

This is besides the point, but I have a Spectrum and updated the software to ICS just hours after the release on Tuesday. The whole process took about 20 minutes and it is an entirely different phone now, better in every way. Since the update, for the last three days I have used the phone extensively for about 8-10 hours a day and I must say I am impressed.

I wonder if there is a factory reset option in a recovery menu.

Do you get any options in the notification window?

Otherwise, I'm stumped.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

I do get the notification bar, but nothing of any help there. I even tried to hook my LG and my PC together. Now my PC does not see the LG (meaning no driver to connect the two). If I could only get the menu, then I could do a factory reset. Guess I take a trip to the Verizon store tomorrow. Bah! Humbug!

I'm beginning to think that ICS stands for Inoperable Crazy System.

Truthfully, I have never done a factory reset prior to downloading any of the other upgrades; Froyo, Gingerbread, and never had any problems...till now. It's not that I mind re-downloading what apps I have. No problem there. It's losing all the information I have in some of the apps, critical information. Once you lose an apps, you lose all the data as well. If I only had games and other such apps I would do a factory reset prior to a new system download. Anyway, I did as you suggested, and it works like a champ. Thanks. Now to do some housecleaning and reinstalling of apps. Thanks again.

I was having the exact same problem as you.  I think the problem with mine was I was trying to download the update on my home pc which is Windows Vista.  It would not detect my phone or find any upgrades.  Then I tried installing from my laptop, which runs Windows XP and it worked flawlessly.  I posted this same info in another thread as well.  Not sure what type of PC you are using but that may be part of the issue.  Just a thought.  Good luck!
