My phone is constantly updating my email.  It is also using my data.  How can I stop this?

Turn off auto sync for the email application or change how often it checks for emails.

Are both your Wi-fi and mobile data on as you can turn mobile data off, also how quickly do you have your mail set to refresh and sync? The faster refesh will use more data and battery.
