My husband and I are getting text messages that Verizon received our request to add a new line unless we call to cancel. Number that was given to us cannot connect. We did not order a new line. This feels like fraud.

You're not asking for a customers number to be posted publicly, are you?
Shouldn't the OP, @mgin call Customer Services, 800-922-0204 instead of some possible phishing number?

That reply comes off as suspicious as what OP is mentioning. No one should ever post their number publicly.
Call *611 / 800-922-0204 and have your account checked out for any recent activity / pending orders. Nothing can ship out without t&c accepted, but good idea to double-check.
