Offer setting to force WiFi preference over cellular when WiFi calls are active.

I moved to Verizon from T-Mobile. Both offer WiFi calling, which is important because in my home the Verizon signal is VERY poor. T-Mobile had a setting that allowed WiFi to take precedence over cellular, or even exclude cellular altogether:

How can I do that with Verizon? Because as poor as the Verizon signal is at my house, it seems to be just good enough to NEVER switch to WiFi (but definitely not good enough for people on the other end of a phone call to hear me). I know many people say to turn on Airplane Mode (which automatically turns off WiFI) and then turn WiFi back on (while Airplane Mode is still active), but that's kind of ridiculous, especially when T-Mobile has proven that this type of setting can be offered (see above).

To be clear, this is NOT an Android limitation since T-Mobile offers it. This is a decision that Verizon has made to not include the setting. So can you please add it?

Why did you switch if your Verizon signal at home is so poor?

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Well, the reason I switched carriers has absolutely nothing to do with Verizon offering a feature that allows you to give preference to WiFi calling, so I abbreviated that part of my post. In truth, I moved a week ago and switched carriers about a year ago, way before I knew I was going to move into a house that had such a terrible signal. Since that fact has nothing at all to do with the feature I was posting about, I wasn't too worried about accurately portraying the ins-and-outs of my moving and carrier switching.

My most sincere apologies for not being more clear about information that had absolutely nothing to do with what I was suggesting.

Seriously... Why did you even exert the effort needed to ask your question?

When you arrive at home, you could always turn the cellular signal off thereby forcing the phone into wifi calling. When you leave home, turn the cellular signal back on.Smiley Happy

Thank you for your input, but as mentioned in the original post, I am aware of the workarounds and I'm not interested in them. Having to manually change the settings on my phone is ridiculous, especially when T-Mobile has shown that it can be an automatic option.

Unfortunately there is no Verizon fix to force Wi-Fi calling  . . . . .not yet anyway.

If in your shoes I would use Google Hangouts as a workaround for now. I have found it really easy to use Smiley Happy

Is there any update on this 'improvement' ?

Its completely stupid to have to manually enable airplane mode, then turn back on the wifi . then remember to turn airplane mode off when leaving, in order to actually use wifi calling.

I get 1 stupid bar of signal resulting in frequent drops and [Removed] conversations.

At the minimum there should be a work around for automated tasking applications to disable/enable.

come on.

As stated, there is no equivalent setting with Verizon, Verizon stays cellular preferred.

I know Apple people and Android people have their thing, but in this particular case, the iPhone does a much better job with switching between wifi calling and cellular. In 5 different models of iPhones I work with, each switches to wifi calling before there is unusable cellular signal and switches back to cellular only when there is a strong signal. It also hands off between the two very nicely. So if this is important to you and you don't have the usual Android v Apple allegience, consider an iPhone.

Ann had a valid question, not sure why you got so touchy on it.

are u referring to her comment about why I use Verizon?  I don't think that's the main concern.   but its the only signal that works on most of my business routes in rural Indiana.

what I need to install would be a lead dome over my house to completely block the 1x signal from my house

The main point of my post is there is no wifi preferred setting with Verizon and the iPhone does a better job of switching to wifi calling in low LTE signal environments.  The workaround of turning off cellular when at home may unfortunately be the best option or get an LTE extender.

But yes, the info on needing Verizon everywhere else you go helps understand your situation better.
