I recently performed a device change on my number and my plan expired in the middle of the monthly renewal. I wanted to keep the plan and the number and it did but my plan expired and i do not have the money for another plan renewal.

It costs money to renew a plan? Or to continue on as you were? Did you buy a phone from Verizon at full price , not at an upgrade which is every two years?

I wanted to keep my 30 dollar plan because i was in the middle of the month i wanted to continue on as i was but it expired. I bought the device a while back like three years i thought i lost it but recently found it.

For prepaid account, you should have called the prepaid customer service number at 1-888-294-6804 for assistance transferring your line and account from your previous phone to the "new" phone.
