Please help. Can't make a choice. Droid vs.. BBS2

I'm posting this here as well a in the BlackBery Devices section.

I had planned on buying the BlackBerry Storm 2 as soon as I was eligable for upgrade.  I didn't have time o get to a store when the chance came.  And while the upgrade was put off, the Droid was released.

I discussed the Droid with my dad and told him I was reluctant to get it because I just knew the price would be very steep.  He suggested I go online and see.  So, just for laugs, I did.  It was only anout a $20 difference in price.  I was surprised and now torn.

I read reviews on both phones, did as much research as possible and still could not choose.

I'm sure someone knows more about these devices more than me.  I read plenty of pros and cons, but didn't know which ones to trust.  Please give me your input.  Anything I may not know about the Droid or BBS2, whether it's hidden prices,or anything else.

I really need help here.

Thank you so much for any input at all.

I don't think the question is what phone you should get as much as what phone you came from and what you want in your new phone. As much as I'd hate to say it, picture Android as if BlackBerry and iPhone had a love child, but Android is Open Source and much much cooler in my opinion.

My fiancee has a BlackBerry and her largest complaint when I had her use my myTouch for a month was the keyboard. I had her use my Droid and she absolutely loved it.

It depends on what you, the user, want to do. BlackBerry and Android do excellent jobs in push notifications. They just do it in different ways. The UI on Android is more technical -- it requires the user to do the magic for the phone. The BlackBerry OS is very similar to the iPhone's OS, everything is there for you. Just click what you want and there it goes.

I know that we carry more Applications -- the lot of them completely useful. I cannot say that I'm not baised towards Android -- I've carried their phones (all of them) since the G1. But I respect the BlackBerry phones, RIM has done a good job in their design.

In my opinion get what you really want. There are plenty things I've heard about the Storm family of BB and they weren't the best.

But It's good to know your interest. My best suggestion? Go to the phones - get a feel for them. See what looks good in your hand. Check out to see if they aesthetically please you.

Whatever makes you happy go for it. If you need assistance or have any questions (within reason of course. The search function doesn't get much love here), you know where to go :smileyhappy:

Thank you, Mike.  I like the iPhone/ BlackBerry love baby metaphor.

If the Android is really as technical as you say compared to the Storm 2, I'll probably lean away from it.  But  tend to be a quick learner when it comes to that.

As for what phone I'm coming from, right now I'm using a freaking Juke.  I hate the **bleep** little thing and I know either one of these will be a welcome change.

And your signature is great.

Thanks again, I appreciate the more specific comparison you gave.

No problem and thanks! Glad to see someone can appreciate dry sarcasm when they see it :smileyhappy:

I agree, anything is better than the Juke at this moment. Some people's make or break is the keyboard. Some, for the apps. Some for the interface. It depends on what you want, and don't be afraid to try to find a phone that perfectly suits your needs.

Not sure I totally agree with you about the 'more technical'  part, Mike.  I think the Droid is pretty easy to 'get to know'.  I'll agree that it has more customization options than any of the Blackberrys, though.  The other parts of your post are right on, though.

I always wanted to like the Storm, but the original Storm wasn't in the cards as I had just bought a Blackberry Pearl and had to wait for a new phone.  Loved the pearl, and when the Storm2 came out, I figured the bugs had been worked out.

But,when I tried the Storm 2 in the store, it just didn't feel right to me.  I just couldn't get used to the touch screen.  Now, my son has the original Storm and absolutely loves it.  My take on it wasn't as glowing.

Then came the Droid.  After the first 30 seconds I played with it, I walked up to the first salesman and had him get me one.  It just felt right, and the internet browsing experience was way, way better than i was used to on the Pearl, and better than the Storm also.  There is just no comparison, IMHO.

Bottom line, Zangetsu, as Mike said, try both phones for yourself.  You may find the experience as one-sided as I did.  For either one....

wow, supitsmike on one side and greyseal on the other. its like captain kirk and spock fighting to the death.......

i have to say its a little bit of both. although having the time play with the device, you might say that the phones processes are real easy.  download the app you want and you are off. easy as pie.

however, there are a lot of tiny little technical things that come with this device but it is always good to know that this particular forum has people (like the two mentioned above) that will provide the solutions needed to make your droid a more pleasurable and worth while.

dont forget you still have 30 days to test drive and to test drive the knowledge within this forum.

LOL!  Now that's some funny stuff.  Thanks for making my morning, willanaya. I had no idea anyone considered me a real help here.

So, Mike, I guess you are Captain Kirk   :smileyhappy:

Truer words were never spoken.  This forum, and others like it, are better sources of information about the Droid than most of the customer service people you will manage to get ahold of.  (those CS people who ARE knowledgable, please ignore that last comment.)

My friend and I compared my Droid with his Storm and they did a lot of similar things... but I still love my Droid and wouldnt trade it for anything! You should definitely do what a previous poster said and go touch and try the phones. While you are there, check out the HTC Droid Eris too. My hubby got it and I cant figure out if I am a tiny bit jealous. I like the slide out keyboard on my Droid though.

@GreySeal You actually help out pretty awesomely when you can, At least the posts that I've seen from you are comprehensive and helpful. Which is always great. And, there's no need to worry about disagreeing with me! That's the beauty of opinions :smileyvery-happy:

@Will I agree, there are small things that come with this device. It's just a learning curve it all :smileyhappy:
