Robo Calls possible solution

With all the robo calls coming into peoples phones why not add a second default ring tone?

This ring tone would be for all incoming calls from phone numbers NOT in my contact list.

Then I can recognize when a call may be a robo call right away.

That means that you would have to go individually into all of your contacts and assign them one ringtone and then assign a different one as the default. You would be better of with an app like True Caller.

Or Verizon could put the option in the phone's OS

Along with all the other carriers?

We have had this discussion MANY times on this forum.

Looks like NoMoRobo is available for iOS and coming soon for Android.

There is your solution!

Another option to block robo calls is to go to the App Store and download the Nomorobo app.  Once you do this, you can do a trial membership for $1.99/month and can block robo calls.  You do have to activate this on your phone by following the prompts on the app.  It was as easy as going to Settings, then Phone, then Call Blocking & Identification, and then Enabling Nomorobo by clicking on the button so that it is green.  That was it.

If before you get to 30 days you don't want to continue paying for the app you can go in at least 24 hours prior to the end of the 30 days and disable the Nomorobo button so you won't be charged after that.

Verizon doesn't code all the phones.  Each manufacturer does that.

I use an app called DU Caller which does a very good job of identifying spam calls and blocking them.  It's something of a crowd sourced service.  Once a number is identified  by a user as spam, it will auto block for other users.

It was just on the news the other day that the FCC has ok'd the cell carriers to stop the robocalls.  How soon it happens is another story.  It's about time.
