Samsung Continuum Updates Behind

I know there are several threads on this already, but people keep marking them "solved" when they are not anywhere near solved.  So, I'm starting this one to get one question answered.  I have heard from multiple sources that Samsung has sent a finished Froyo update to Verizon.  Verizon denies it, but won't give any details.  We just keep getting the canned response about there being nothing to report on a timeframe.  Blah, blah, blah.  I had a rep call me the other day to respond to my complaint.  His response; since I have an upgrade available on one of my other lines, I should just transfer it to my line and buy a different phone.  So, I spent good money on this phone less than a year ago, and now they want me to spend more money to replace it so they don't have to do their job.  Not going to happen.  We all know the update is out there, and now the phone is two updates behind almost every other Galaxy phone.

My question is for a Verizon agent; what is the hold up with this update?  We might understand if we just go some details.  Is it the ticker?  Is it some other interface?  Is it fear that what happened to the Fascinate will happen to the Continuum, too?  With all these questions, we want to know what is being done about it.  People bought the phone on the promise of an update.  The update offers so much, including Flash, better security, and saving apps to the card, to name a few.  We are not unreasonable people, we just want a little communication.  I know someone at Verizon knows what the hold up is, we just want to hear it.

Only a complete answer to this question will satisfy a "solved" solution to this thread.  Come on Verizon, show us that customer service is still important, and get someone to answer the question of "why?"

The trouble is that both Samsung and Verizon know that they're going to get away with it. That's why neither company will issue a public statement about the matter, but will continue to sell the product, despite knowing that it has problems and that a number of the claims they make about what it does are, at this point, false. The only way to fix the matter is with more pressure. The only time large companies listen these days is when something starts making waves on-line, and their PR people suddenly realize that that they're about to look bad to potentially millions of people. My suggestion? Get on Facebook, get on Google Plus, get on Twitter and ask:  [removed link to third party site] And tell everyone you know to do the same.

edit: pfffft. Figures. There's a Facebook page called "Where's My Update." Look it up. First post is about the Continuum.

The interesting thing is that they can't say the update causes problems.  We all know there is a site that has published an unofficial update.  That was over 3 months ago, now.  I've checked several times and there are no reports of problems and everyone seems happy with the update.  They report better battery life, even.  Speculation has been that the ticker is an issue, but there are no reports of that causing problems.  My guess is that Verizon is having problems with it, which can only speak to one problem; the bloatware.  I would say Verizon can't get all their bloatware to work with the update.  The unofficial update removes all the bloatware.  Verizon cares more about their bloatware than us customers.

Yes, it is a shame they are still selling this phone, knowing they will never update it.  Shameful.

Also, seems the Fascinate is working much better with GB than Froyo.  I'd like to think that bodes well for us, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I'm sure the ticker is an issue. The problem is that the ticker is an issue now. It has been since I got my phone in March. I've submitted a ticket and they've acknowledged that it has issues.

I haven't had any issues with my ticker, but I don't use it as extensively as some. I like it as a notification area when the phone is locked, or if I'm using other apps. I don't do much with it with RSS, but that's because I use Google Reader instead. With Google Reader, I can choose which feeds I want.

I've spoken to two reps over the phone (they called me in response to an email).  The only thing they offered me as far as an exchange goes is to transfer on open upgrade from another line.  I could do that with any phone, so no real offer.  The second one spoke with a Tech Supervisor, who stated that the update is still with Samsung.  He said, she said, one blaming the other.  Unacceptable.  It seems we are going to continue to get the runaround, so no hope of an update, zero customer service.  Moral of the story; don't buy from Samsung (any electronics) and switch from Verizon to anyone else.

Yea, you notice that we sometimes get bits and pieces of the puzzle from techs and bottom-of-totem poll guys, but nobody makes an public statements. Plausible deniablity.

Well I've accepted the fact that we will never get an official 2.2 update, but I still wish Verizon would try and patch the bugs with the ticker. I still haven't recieved a single RSS since June.

Also, I think the batteries in the continuum are broken or something, mine dies in 3 hours with the screen off.

You just need to do the same thing that the owners of the Fascinate did a few months ago, and that was constantly asking verizon through Facebook, Twitter, news outlets, anywhere it can be publicly asked, "Why has there been no updates published for the Continuum?"

I get ticker updates. I can even set up some RSS feeds of my own choosing, though not all (some list errors subscribing). My problem with the ticker is that when I set up user added feeds, it bogs down my phone something terrible. I hadn't tried to set up my own feeds until a few days ago when I read that a lot of owners were having problems. On that day, I added 2 new apps and set up three feeds. My phone slogged through switching screens. It was unbelievably slow in everything, even other apps. So, I thought it might be the new apps. I deleted them. It was still slow. The only logical thing to do was to unsubscribe to the feeds. Bingo! My phone is back to its normal self. So, the ticker I thought a novel idea, is only useful for one thing; reading new texts as they come in without having to unlock the phone. Really wishing I'd bought the Fascinate, now.

All in all, it's got me calculating when I can afford to pay the ETF on all my lines. I'm thinking next summer is most likely it, when three of the five will be out of contract, anyway, then I'll just have 12 months left on one feature phone and my smartphone.
