WHY!?

I wonder if it might be a problem with the battery. If you can get to a Verizon store and ask them to try a different battery in it, that might be one way of testing it.

I was thinking about getting the stratosphere. Does this problem make you think your phone choice? and this happening to a lot of people?

Call tech support.  I had to be at a different phone in order to follow instructions on my Stratosphere but when I was finished, it worked perfectly.  I like my phone, have had it since May.

It could be several things causing your problem. The most common causes are bad applications and bad updates. The first thing that I recommend you do is to wipe the phone back to factory status. If the phone is boot-looping like it sounds, you will have to reset the phone from the factory android recovery mode... follow the steps detailed here: http://www.technipages.com/how-to-hard-reset-samsung-stratosphere.html . You will need to know your Gmail logon to recover your contacts, unless you ran Backup Assistant when you activated the phone. Once you have wiped the device and recovered your contacts, use the phone for a bit before you start reinstalling applications. This will let you know if an app was causing your issues. If the phone is still acting up, it is probably a faulty sofware image or faulty hardware, and it is time to have Verizon replace it. If it works after wiping it, then start installing your applications one by one (playing with the device in between each install). You can find the applications that you have downloaded by hitting the menu key when you have the Play Store app open and selecting "My Apps". Hope this gives you some place to start!

I think Konky has a good idea. But I think Dave in Decatur also has a point.

I've seen some wierd stuff when batteries are over-charged, or batteries are undercharged, and it could be the AC Adapter was (is) at fault, and the phone is trying to protect itself.

I'd go to a corporate store and ask them to try a new battery and another charger and see if after 20min of charging the new battery, if the device behavior is different.

THEN, if that didn't work, I would go the FDR route, but I would have someone in a corporate store see that you performed a wipe and the device is still wacked, because at that point, I think a replacement device is in order.
