I recently tried to upgrade a device on my line. My family and I have been customers Verizon for quite some time now. When I went to upgrade my sons line they ask me to pay $350 as a down payment. Considering we have been loyal customers for at least seven years now and our bills have been roughly $400 a month for the last year now. My husband was grandfathered into the unlimited data plan so we have to be very careful on the choices we make so that he does not lose that service. However I simply cannot afford to pay $400 a month for a cell phone bill and then pay another $350 to that same company for a phone that I need to pay that bill. I felt no sense of customer loyalty. I think that considering a new company might be in my best interest. Has anybody else had problems with Verizon and their customer care? This just seems unfair. Thank you for your time.
Have you seen the price of phones? I mean the full price?
Carriers make very little on each phone. They are in the business of providing service. The phones are an extra, and we have to pay for them. If you don't like the price of the phone you selected, don't buy it. Buy a cheaper phone.
I Don't buy on time. I buy my cars and cell phones with savings and live within my means. I'm a single mom, recently divorced, and recently debt free. It's the way to go these days.
It's not about the price of the phone. I never had a problem paying for the phone. It's because of my credit is questionable. Props to you for being a single mother and talking care of your business. I respect that. However, what makes you think that I haven't been through hard times as well. I guess I would just like to think that being a loyal customer for more than 7 years is simply nothing in the mind of corporate America. I will be just fine without the upgrade, plus being in a month to month plan gives me options to look elsewhere.
During my divorce, I lived on credit and my credit tanked something aweful. It has improved greatly. Part of that is spending cash. It keeps me from fooling myself that I can afford something, when I can't.
I also refuse to pay upgrade fees. I buy all my phones at retail, sort of. I buy off eBay, last model, or older model. a lot of phones don't sell and are still new in the box, and much cheaper 6 months later. I bought my Note 3 after the Note 4 came out. I have not purchased a phone direct from a carrier in almost 2 years.
I Should add, if I didn't buy my phones elsewhere, I'm sure they would want a line deposit also.
MY family had an account for 17 years, left for a year and came back. I have my extended family on my plan. 6 phones and 2 tablets and pay $240 before tax with 130 GBS promotional data pack. My sons work and pay their share. My parents pay their phone. I pay for my ex husbands line.
