Can't get anything out of Verizon customer service at the moment.  Did an online chat with one rep - he couldn't confirm the phone because it wasn't on the website.  Linked him to the article on BGR, and he said he'd check on a release date.  "Late August... according to Google."

Seriously?  They've "confirmed" and haven't spread the news to the reps who are clearly going to get hit with requests for dates, and the reps turn to Google?  That's shameful.

Maybe there isn't a definitive release date, most verizon reps didn't find out a release date for the iphone 5 much before we did. Even if they did know a release date, they can't day until it becomes public knowledge unless they enjoy being fired for giving out proprietary information
