Unwanted Apps

If Google adds a feature to deny or ignore individual applications updates, I will be one of the first people who yell "Woo Hoo!" I don't like having to manually check for updates anymore than the next person. However, I refuse to update the 11 applications listed in my installed applications because they are pieces of "Bloatware" IMO. This is for my Thunderbolt phone.

I was able to leave the notifications on with my Nexus since the two real pieces of bloatware have been disabled with the ICS operating system. However, I rarely see the application notification. Why you might ask. I open the Play Store often enough that I catch the updates before the application notifies me. Sometimes I will open the Play Store and just as I load the "My Apps" view there is that notification in the top bar of my phone. I am actually almost annoyed by it that I might just turn it off yet.

You might think that the notifications for updates is "cruise" control, but I think that I now have control over when and where application is allowed update.

I don't mind the update notices and leave mine on.  I never set any apps to automatic updates.  I click on the Play Store app several times a day.  If there is an update or several updates, it's easy enough to click "update all" and let it do it's thing.  It's just not an issue to me.

Actually you can still receive OTA after removing apps but IT CAN BRICK YOUR DEVICE..... And don't forget VOID WARRENTY.

No, if you remove the pre-installed apps, you are no longer on the OTA path.  I guess it's possible that this might vary depending on the apps.  I'm talking about apps that can only be removed by rooting your phone.

I just manually update those apps I use. The bloatware I completely ignore. Once you open the Notification Drawer and tap on the icon which tells you that you have upgrades, Go to it, upgrade your apps, close the Notification Drawer, and the icon will be gone. Gee, I just bought a new laptop which had several programs on it which I knew that I would never use. I went to the Control Panel, went to Programs, and uninstalled those programs. No fuss, no muss, no bother. To bad smartphones, which I consider minicomputers, can not do the same thing. I wonder about the Windows Phones. Do they have a control panel? I really don't know since I've never owned one.

The issue is that Verizon is paid to have these apps installed permanently on our phones.

Without breaking site rules I can say that if you are still on stock rom and you remove apps the OTA will still try to install but usually bricks device...

Many have verified this on many sites..

This is why its a bad ideal to do...

That's exactly what I'm saying.  You cannot upgrade your device.  People do things to get rid of pre-installed apps only to find out they have screwed up their phone for future upgrades.

That is not what Jim is saying. He is saying if you do what we can not discuss here to remove preinstalled apps, when an OTA firmware update occurs, most likely the phone will become a paperweight
