Using Eris like a Garmin

Is there a way to use Google maps and get directions when driving?  Would like to use google maps to find my location and then let it show me where I am as we move along the road.

1. Menu --> Directions
2. Enter From and To
3. Hit Go
4. In the turn-by-turn listing, tap Menu-->Show On Map

You'll now have a purple line and while driving, you'll see your position track on the screen. Howver, if you move the map... it will not center. To fix, you'll have to hit Menu--> My Location

This is the closest the Eris has to true True turn-by-turn navigation. However, the Eris will get Android 2.1 soon which will have a full navigation app.
