Although you sometimes come across a particular phone that has BAD reception, most phones tend to be about the same. Don't be fooled by the "signal strength meter" as those can be very misleading. The real test is if you have an area where you know you are "absolutely going to drop your conneciton" (I used to have one one my way to work, same spot, every time with my old provider.) see where and if your conneciton drops. I only had one phone is the past 15+ years that would not drop my call in that area (it was close - voice quality would get bad, but it would stay connected.) and that was an old Motorola. My nokias, blackberries, samsungs, first couple of motorolas (the old brick, flip-covers), erricson, would all drop within a few hundred feet of the same spot. The one Moto that did NOT drop the call, would actually go down to "zero bars" *sooner* than any of the other phones, although it had the best voice quality throughout the entire 1/2 mile stretch where the other phones dropped.
T.G.O. mentioned some having issues with the Eris. My daughter has the Eris, and has not had any signal strength problems, at least her unit seems to be pretty much the same as far as signal quality is concernred as my Moto Droid, although since Verizon has such good coverage in our area (compared to everyone else) the only place you can actually get a "weak" signal around here is inside a metal building, or the basement of my wife's shop downtown inside a 2 story 120 year old brick building, but even there you can't get either to drop a call or have poor voice quality.
If you have particularly bad problems inside your house, you might consider getting a cellular "repeater" system for home... You can pick one up for around $200 or less. I suggest going to Amazon to read reviews of some of the different units... I also suggest kind of paying attenton to those who rate them as "junk" or "worthless" as you will tend to see these are people who don't understand that you *MUST* separate the "outside" and "inside" antennas as far as possible to prevent them from "seeing" each other and creating a loop-back situation. Once you get an idea on Amazon, you can then go looking for the best deals (which I did NOT find on Amazon, BTW.) (I had one when I was with Sprint, before you ask why I have experience, and yet say my signal with Verizon is so great
