I recently upgraded to a Droid Maxx 2 and immediately learned that, unlike the original Droid Maxx, the caller's name is not announced. Although the feature seemingly exists and, in fact, directions to activate the caller id announce feature is in the phone's manual, I could not get it to work. After contacting Verizon Wireless, I was transferred to a Motorola representative. Ultimately, a representative from neither company could assist. The Motorola representative suggested downloading a 3rd-party talking caller id app instead.

Doesn't work on the 2014 Moto x either. I think it is a limitation of Lollipop. It only seems to work with Kit-Kat.

Having your calls read out is important, Shippan177. Let's look into this more. Has your phone ever had this as a feature? When speaking with the Motorola rep did they go through any steps with you? JasperM_VZW

Based on the user manual and the settings provided on the phone, the phone does have the feature. It has never functioned since I first attempted to activate it within a few days of activating the phone. The Morotola representative simply led me through the steps provided in the user manual.

I thought the announcements of the caller ID's was a function in the original Moto App. After the update to Marshmallow or Lollipop, Motorola changed the functionality or removed some to shift the driving mode and other functions to the native behavior of the Android OS. The original functionality remained in the KitKat version of the Moto app.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.
