Why is Sprint so much more affordable now?

Sprint prices on phones are so much more reasonable, and they have better and more frequent sales.  Has Verizon just chose not to compete? Been with Verizon for over a decade but believe have to drop it!

Those are leases not purchases.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

I understand it is a lease . . . but a lease of 18 months, How much does Verizon give you for a 18 month old phone . . . about $30-$50! Moreover, in the age of phone obsolescence, most people keep a phone for 24 months at Verizon simply because that is the contract they conspired.  By 18 months, the phone is not the same . . . software does not operate as smoothly, there is wear and tear, battery becomes weaker, and software is outdated compared to the newest phones!!  I will gladly give up my phone after 18 months to get another phone if it is half the price of Verizon . . . do the math, why pay 2x the amount to own a phone that will be worthless upon ownership.  I have been a Verizon customer for over a decade but the continual desire to ramp up prices more and more has brought its superior service to a point that it simply is not worth the cost.  Unless I can find a deal worth my while with Verizon before the current Sprint deals expire on the S-8, then I am jumping ship . . and would advise others to wake up to the realization that Verizon is relying on the notion people will pay much higher prices for phones if plans are competitive and their service is slightly better (though the gap narrows by day).  By the way, I am a huge Verizon fan . . hate Sprint and their commercials . . . but Verizon has gone a bad direction the past year or so with its phones.

Because they are desperate for customers because their network sucks.

JEFWIL45,

It breaks my heart to think that you are contemplating leaving us for Sprint. Your loyalty of over a decade means more than you know and we do not want to see you end our relationship. I know there are many lucrative offers out there with competitors these days, and it makes sense to keep an eye out. Our offers and promotions are always changing, and there usually always something to meet our customer's needs. What is it that you're looking for in a promotion? What kind of device(s) are you trying to upgrade to?

Keep in mind the premium network that you have with us, and why you've stayed with us over ten years. Phones these days are getting more expensive due to how much more they improve. I am a consumer too, and I know service isn't as cheap as it once was. One thing that I find great value in is Verizon Up. With this free program, simply for me paying my bill, I can take advantage of the ability to receive special offers, earn rewards, gift cards, and many other awesome opportunities. Find out more about this great program for a loyal customer like you by checking out this link: m.vzw.com/m/UpSocial.

I have sent you a private message to make sure we can address your concerns. Please respond to the message and allow us to check on options to keep you in the Verizon family.

Sprint is cheap because their network is garbage. If you like not having your phone work when you need it, by all means save that small amount.

As for the lease thing, Verizon has a similar option for Samsung and Apple's top devices where you can do an early upgrade with trade-in at the 12 month mark - 6 months earlier than Sprint and with a network not held together with bubblegum and string.

Hello,

I presume that I should say thanks for the email regarding my loyal service to Verizon; however, as I stated previously in the online forum, Verizon is not even trying to compete with Sprint or Tmobile in terms of phone costs.  While the plans are still comparable, and the service (cell phone reception) is still a little better than Sprint, both Sprint and Tmobile have much better deals concerning the costs of the phone.  I have now waited another month to see what Verizon might have to offer but the deals are worthless to me . . . for instance, you have this buy one get one free deal . . . that requires me to open another entire line, or in other words it is a worthless deal that only tries to convince me to add to my monthly bill!

I have paid my current amount and will pay for June service, but as of the moment in July I will be dropping Verizon so that I can purchase an affordable phone and upgrade my current Droid.

Best Wishes,

J. Wilhelm, PhD
