I don't want to sync my tablet calendar with my gmail account. But unless I do events I add to the tablets calendar don't show up. How can i get events to show up when I enter them without syncing my tablets calendar to my google account? I don't want them synced

If you don't want them on any other device besides the tablet, choose the device calendar and not the Gmail account for the place to create the event into.

The whole point of using Google calendar is to sync the calendar, so the phone, tablet, and computer are all the same, without having to update each one individually.
If you want a standalone calendar, not synced to anything, then download a third party app (search the Playstore for Calendar apps). Google calendar, by design, will sync as soon as you log in to your Google account.

I've downloaded 2 calendars, the 1st one synced to google & the 2nd wanted to as well. Which downloadable calendar will work. I wanted a separate calendar because the calendar on my phone is synced to gmail, so I don't need 2 calendars synced to gmail.

Technically it is the same calendar. There just happened to be multiple devices reading the data from it. Last I counted, I have at least four devices pulling the Gmail calendar from the Google servers plus the computer can allow me to access. I am grateful for each of those devices when they notify me of an appointment or other reminder especially if my active phone is on the other end of the house and I have different device like my tablet much closer to me.

Try this: create a new Google calendar called My Tablet Calendar, or something. Then, when Google calendar loads, uncheck your phone or personal or whatever calendar it is you DON'T want to sync and leave the Tablet calendar as the only one showing. One calendar, multiple views. That ought to work.
