just got my dad a droid eris for christmas. figured he's need some time getting used to it. the problem is that he always seems to make calls by accidentally hitting he contact or the call history tab. Is there any way to change these settings so the contact comes up when you hit it, rather then automatically calling that contact?  I can't seem to find any settings features that allow to change this. It's not on phone settings. not on app settings. anywhere im not looking or overlooking?

There are alternative dialers in the market like SuperDial, you might play with a few of those. If you simply can not find any other method, if you install Google Voice and tell it to "ask every time" if you want to use Google Voice, or not when you make a phone call, every time you hit your contact, that dialog will come up and he will have to select either with, or without before it will actually dial the call, if he doesn't want to call, he can just hit the back button. To actually USE Google Voice you have to have a GV account. To request an invite go to http://google.com/voice It takes a couple weeks to get an invite. You can download the GV app from the market without having an account, but I don't know if you can actually get it to "run interference" for you without actually first signing into your GV account when you start up the app the fist time... You'd have to try it.

When you open the "phone" on the Eris, there will be a little icon at the far right of each contact, either an index card, or a plus sign. If you touch the index card specifically, it will open the contact info for that contact, rather than just calling them, and you can dial from there if you choose to. If you touch the plus sign, it will ask if you want to add that number to your contacts list, or again, you can call the number from there. If you open your "favorites" or "contact list" via the small icon in the bottom right corner when the phone is open, it will also open those contacts, rather than calling them.
