Are the folders visible so that you can 'drag and drop' the files?  More detailed instructions could be provided if we knew which Droid you have and which operating system you have on your laptop.

They will not recognize each other until the  proper drives have been installed. If they did not install automatically when you first put the two together via your USB chord, then go to motorola.com, then to the phone you have. Once there, go to support and look at the drivers for downloading. Download and install the driver you need. Once that is done, you should have no problems putting the phone and laptop together. Once you do get them together, pull down the notification listing. On it you will see the USB icon (looks sort of like a trident). Click on that and then on "mass storage." From then on, it will be a mere drag and drop job.

It still does not work. In the pull down, there is no USB icon.

Are you using the USB cord that came with the phone?

Which phone do you have?

What operating system do you have on your laptop?

Have you ever been able to connect the phone with your laptop?  It should be a matter of connecting the two devices with the USB cord, letting the drivers install, and then choosing the USB connection from the notification area.  Wonder if the cord is bad?  When you connect the two, does anything happen in the way of notifications on either the phone or laptop?
