updated to lollipop and lost all pictures on phone

Updated to Lollipop on galaxy s5 and lost all pictures.  can they be retrieved?  How - in simple terms, please

Unless you factory reset there is no reason you should have lost them, they may just be "misplaced". 

Are you backing them up to anywhere?  (Dropbox, Google (picasa), Verizon Cloud?

Connect your phone to a computer via USB and try looking for them on Card (assuming you have a microsd) and Phone.   Usually located in \DCIM but if you were using another camera application could be in other directories.

Do you have a MicroSD card, are they are on the card?
