warning 503 80314:Invalid user endpointid

I changed my password on google.  Now my droid htc is no longer able to access my gmail.  It sends me a message from donotreply@vzw.net that says "Your account could not be authenticated.  If you have recently changed your email password, please enter the most current password in setting to continue receiving emails.  So, I go to settings and try to update the password.  Then I get the "Warning 503 80314: Invalid user endpointid" message.  What do I do to fix this so that my phone can access my gmail again?

Try deleting the gmail account, power down the phone and restart it, then re-adding your gmail account.

I'm having the same issue with a replacement SGS3.  How do I delete my account to begin again?  I've tried under "Settings"  then "Accounts" but only find option to add, not delete.
