Since 1PM CDT, March 12, 2014, after updating to 7.1 iOS, iPhone has been searching for service. All reset procedures followed as guided by Apple tech. I have heard, via Verizon Customer Service, that engineers are working on the issue.
Thoughts, insights or solutions?

I know how important it is to have a working device OO**OO. I'm sorry to hear about the difficulties you have encountered. Where are you currently located? What specific reset procedures did you complete? I recommend starting with resetting the network settings. http://vz.to/1jpC7LO If the device still doesn't respond, I recommend a hard reset. http://vz.to/1jNCa4z. If that doesn't resolve, a full restore via iTunes would be the last step. http://vz.to/1atZb9c. If you have already completed these procedures, a visit to an Apple store would be beneficial. http://bit.ly/LCjTdk

My iPhone 5 is doing the same thing and after trying all the "fixes" I now have to use my insurance for a new phone. This means I have to shell out $169 in order to get the replacement. This is obviously a software issue. Shouldn't verizon be taking the responsibility for this problem and just swap out my phone? The phone works perfectly with my wifi but will not locate the verizon network. How is this my issue?

Don't use the insurance yet.
Go to an Apple Store and have them look at it. There is a year warranty and they can exchange it for you at no cost if there is no damage to the device.
Save the $169 to Asurian until Apple looks at it.
Good Luck

I too am not able to connect and use my phone, it is always searching.
This is after updating my software to iOS7.1 and it quit working and is just searching a few days after. I went to a Verizon store and they tried to get service with new sims chip and what not, still not working and just searching. They told me to go to the MAC store which I did. The people at Macintosh say it is an known issue with Verizons service with devices that have been upgraded to iSO 7.1 with certain imeid numbers.
Do the people at Verizon know this and are working on a solution?

Did you ever notice that others will say its a known issue with Verizon iPhones when the device is sold by other providers?
Did you google the issue? It is not just an issue with Verizon.
Apple put out the update, Verizon has zero to do with the update. So if anything it is an Apple issue.
That is why I said go to an Apple Store. It is their responsibility and not Verizon wireless.
Good Luck
