We certainly want you to complete your iOS update Gil. With iOS 9, Apple introduced the 6 digit passcode as a higher security option. As I checked my resources, I found this link from the manufacturer for a way to resolve this issue. Please review this link: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204306

No, I'm not locked out. I only made one attempt with my 4 digit passcode. There is an update, 9.2, that I attempted to install. That's when the phone asked for the six digit code! It appears that the 6 digit passcode was put on my phone before I did the download. I'm not a techy person but is how it happened. Of course I can not do the download.

So after a software update Apple attempts to get the user to update to a 6-digit password. I believe this began with iOS 8. If you updated to a 6-digit and want to revert back to a 4-digit do the following:
Settings > Touch ID & Passcode > Change Passcode > enter your existing 6-digit passcode etc. > Tap Passcode Options just above the keypad numbers > select Custom Alpha Code, Custom Numeric Code, 4-digit numeric code, etc.
Hope this helps and is what your looking for.

If I had ever created a 6 digit passcode it is a no brainer to go back to 4. Please re-read my post. I have ALWAYS used a 4 digit passcode. I was NEVER prompted to change to a 6 digit. I have IOS 9.2 in the cue to be downloaded. I have NEVER changed my 4 digit passcode that I have used for well over a year, yet the phone demands a 6 digit code and it will not accept my 4 digit code. If this happened to me it is happening to others. It is a new problem apparently with no fix! And I still need help!

Steelfeathers,
This update to the security feature by Apple is a pain. I removed that option myself. Thank you bd94s10 for the tips on how to change it back to 4 digits. Let’s get you back up and running. Do you have access to the phone now? Do you have your phone backed up or access to ITunes on a computer?

What should I do now, knowing my phone is backed up?

I was simply trying to assist. This scenario doesn't make much sense so my response was based upon logic. I've never seen nor heard of an iPhone asking for a 6-digit passcode if the user only has a 4-digit passcode setup. Good luck to you.

Thanks. I wish luck was the answer. I did get a response from Verizon asking if the phone was backed up. I was not given instructions.l what to do next. It would appear I'm going to be directed to erase the phone and start from scratch. However experience tells me to wait until given directions. The thread is ongoing if you want to follow it may be interesting.
