That is the news you did not get from Apple or Verizon.
So, if you want to get their new phone and stay with your current plan, data must be added AND texting too!
For many users- no big deal;
those who wish to avoid texting and all related expense, too bad! There is no workaround.
For me it is an additional $10 to $20 monthly increase. Just to continue getting VOICEMAIL NOTIFICATIONS like I did for almost 30 years.
It is time to stop going back to these business leaders and taking their extortion in stride.

I understand that the visual Voicemail system used on Apple devices is different from the voicemail system on other VZW devices. Why the Apple system needs a messaging plan with the phone, I don't have any idea.
The data plan is required since it is a smartphone.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

To further clarify;
The Data plan IS required and additional cost accepted-
The Messaging was never disclosed as a requirement- additional cost unplanned and unacceptable.
Footnote... I have seen on some info blogs mention of resetting network to resolve--- it may be possible I was mis-directed, and further testament to the utter frustration.

All I know With other visual voicemails you don't need text plan you need to not have a full text block on it.
