So for those of us who got the iPhone 4 on Verizon day 1, will we be able to upgrade to the iPhone 5 on day 1? Our contracts end on the 5th of October, just 2 weeks after the 5 releases.

i doubt it. you are eligible for an upgrade exactly 20 months after your last upgrade.

Not unless VZW decides to be generous...which probably won't happen due to demand. It wouldn't be fair to those that are eligible for upgrade to possibly be bumped by someone that was not eligible yet but given a "pass" so to speak. Honestly, 2 weeks isn't that bad to wait unless something is wrong with your current device. Plus, if you have the unlimited data plan and want to keep it you will have t purchase at full retail...in which case you might as well pre-order with everyone else. IF I decide to upgrade I already know I plan to pay full retail but I don't know if I plan to pre-order or wait it out despite my eligibility date coming up in October just like everyone else that ordered the iPhone 4 during pre-order. Normally I wouldn't opt for that at all but my unlimited data is more important to me than the subsidized pricing...plus it won't hurt so bad when I sell my 4s (which is only 6 months old and looks like new...only reason I have it is because it replaced the 4 that I initially thought was damaged in a car accident so the replacement was covered by the auto insurance). At any rate, don't expect to be able to pre-order or purchase before your upgrade eligibility date if you want to pay the subsidized pricing...unless VZW tells you otherwise. You can check the Apple.com site and it will tell you the date you upgrade at subsidized pricing and what you'll pay before then.

Actually, it would most likely be not unless "Apple" decides to be generous. Verizon may not have a choice in the matter.

I don't see this happening without a huge outcry to Apple about this. Yes, it's only 2 weeks but punishing early adopters seems not Apple's style. I believe a similar situation happened with this and the first iPhone long ago and Apple actually made an exception but I don't remember the details exactly.
I just recall public outcry and Apple relenting.

won't happen. that was at&t that decided to give early upgrades. when verizon initially got the iP4, they didn't give an early upgrades for it. and how is this "punishing early adapters?" as far as punishing early adapters.....that's exactly what apple did with the new port. throw out your old docks and go get new ones.

Btw you don't have to get rid if anything. There's an adaptor to use it.
Apple will never give a gift early. There's to many people who want it. Only Verizon can change your upgrade date. Add a line is your only option other then waiting or full retail.

i understand there will be an adapter. but explain how it will dock in to older accessories when the port on the phone is smaller than the plug on the dock? it won't be able to plug in flush. i guess it will still plug in, but won't it have to sit up a bit, out of the dock?

Just an update. I contacted Verizon's customer support who was very helpful. I told them about my loyalty and how I was a day 1 iPhone 4 user. They then thanked me for my loyalty and moved my upgrade up so I could pre order the iPhone 5. Then they took me through the ordering process. I'm all set and I have pre-ordered the iPhone 5 at the subsidized price.
Thanks Verizon!

I just told them about how I was a day 1 iPhone 4 customer and how we've been with them for a long time, and that it was only an early upgrade by about 3 weeks. They didn't question any further and instantly gave me the upgrade, so I don't think it will be a problem for you. Let us know how it turns out.

And you understand that if you had unlimited data you will lose it, correct?
