Yes I just removed and reinserted the SIM card and also tried power cycling the phone. It shows Verizon with 3G and also cell strength but there is no data and calls go directly to a Verizon operator recording.

Also when I go to settings>phone my phone number says unknown.

Ok my issue has been resolved. The phone was exchanged with a new sim card but the old sim card number was sent to Verizon.

Dvdown18, when you go into Settings > Cellular > under - Use Cellular Data For - are any of those features toggled OFF, that may be required to be ON?
