If you stay on Verizon and roam while you're there it *might* work, and it will definitely cost you more. Especially data. That adds up mighty fast when you're roaming.

Verizon iPhones now all come unlocked on the GSM side right out of the box, so buying a local pre-paid SIM card is the smart way to go. Make sure you have Cellular Data switched off so you only use data over WiFi, unless your pre-paid plan includes a generous data allotment.
