Karen, Not to worry, this could be a very simple flip of a button. Could you please go to settings, then Icloud. Make sure you have your contacts turned on and that you are logged in to your icloud account. Then restart your phone and let us know if this fixes the contacts for you. You should be up and running with your contacts in no time.

if they are on turn off keep on phone and turn back on in icloud . also if synced to an email go into the mail contacts and calenders and make sure contacts are on for that email.
