How to unlock iphone for use in Brasil?

I won an iphone 4 from a friend who was in Brazil, however it does not accept the Brazilian SIM.

I have a message that I must unlock the device.

This is possible?

The iPhone 4 for Verizon doesn't use Sim. It's a CDMA device. If it does have a Sim slot then it's a AT&T or T-Mobile version. You need to check with them for an unlock.
