Incorrect data usage

i have a 10gb per two month plan for my iPad. My data use jumped from 5 gigs to over 8 gigs on Aug 22nd. Each month when I buy a new data plan, I reset the data usage statistics on my iPad. My iPad still showed about 5 gigs of usage. When I checked my account it showed that over 3 gigs of data was used on 8/22. This is i,possible since I was in meetings all data and didn't use my iPad much and only watched a couple of 30 minute episodes on Netflix.

So can someone please explain why Verizon is showing I used so much data that day when I really didn't.

Pharmdlb,

I understand your concern regarding the data usage. The data that is reflected on our website would be accurate. We are only able to calculate data from a device that has connected to our network. While viewing a couple of short episodes on Netflix may not seem like a lot it can use a good portion of data. We have a data calculator online that may be useful just to see how much data can be used, you can view that here http://vz.to/1K8iAgd. Also we have our awesome data utilization tool that shows how you use your data http://vz.to/1B9SpiP.

Our data usage suddenly increased significantly.  We've gradually increased plans in the past year from 8GB to 10, to 12, to 15, then most recently to XXL 24.  And suddenly we used 29GB of data this last cycle.  It doesn't make any sense.  Something is not working correctly in the background.  Verizon needs to research, address and fix the data usage problem.  Many customers are suddenly seeing a major issues with data usage.  There must be something broken or new way to calculate the data in the background that is causing this.  And overnight data while everyone is asleep and on WIFI doesn't make any sense and is adding to the problem...this wasn't an issue months ago...why is it now?

DT32067, being in control of your data is important to me. We do need to understand why this is happening. Are anyone of your family members made changes or downloaded anything new? Are you connecting to WiFi? What kind of devices do you have?

The data usage you see online is not accurate exactly, nor is it always up to date. There can be a lag in data calculation of several days.

I'm questioning all the responses here... except from 47Seijar.  I've been getting the data usage alert and I found that it was because my wifi had somehow turned off.  It could have been me and I had forgotten.  It isn't a big issue and I didn't go over, but that was for maybe a day or two.  I don't typically do anything more than check social media or play words with friends, shutting both apps down after each use.  I'm noticing data charges which, while apparently minute, they're hitting me during times that I would be asleep or at home where it connects to my wifi automatically and my wifi is always on.  I'm concerned about seeing data for times I'm not using my phone because I know I'm sleeping.  I've seen several posts around the internet stating that the data charges from Verizon are inexplicably increasing for people and Verizon's responses are vague.  Has anyone had a legit response to this issue?

I switch from another carrier to Verizon because off coverage in this area. With the same use habits we are seeing more than quadruple the data usage, even with data saver on. Apps like Pandora are using way more data through Verizon than from our other carrier. What gives!
