MONITOR YOUR DATA CHARGES

Be vigilant concerning your data plans.  I recently downgraded my plan, because I have access to Wifi during the day and evening.  On Monday, July 20, 2015 I started receiving alerts that my data usage had reached its 75% mark.  Five minutes later I received another message that my data had reached its 90% mark.  This occurred as the clock approached 6:00PM.  Immediately, I contacted Verizon, and was told by the first representative that I spoke with that I had used the majority of the data causing the overages on July 17, 2015.  Then his supervisor, named Kasey, spoke to me, at my request, and informed me that the rep's information was inaccurate.  His records indicated that I had only used a fraction of my data.  Kasey deceived me and told me that he would correct the erroneous data charges on my account, but he first needed to let the system reset itself; so he asked me to give the system a few days and he would contact me on Friday.  But, when Friday, July 24, 2015 arrived, he had a completely different story.  He claimed that the system had updated itself and the data usage that resulted in overages occurred on Monday, July 20, 2015.  He claimed that I had used 2GB of data in 4 hours.  I downgraded from 5 GB to 2GB, and at no time in my usage history, have I used 2GB of data in 4 hours.  And I stream music, audiobooks, and videos.  Despite the usages that Kasey claims were the cause of overages, I have alerts set on my phone that I did not receive until an hour after I had incurred the usage that resulted in overages?  That's impossible.  Verizon is trying to recoup the money it's going to lose from me because of my downgrade.

To protect yourself, if you have a smartphone, turn off your cellular data whenever you rely on WIFI.  That's what I plan to do starting today.  Thank God I no longer have a contract with Verizon and my current phone is unlocked.

One HD movie(1 hour 30 minute) from iTunes is around 6GB. Split that into 30 minute pieces that's roughly 2GB each.

Who said I was watching a video?  I only listed the things I do with my device, but I also stated that I have access to WIFI and I've never used 2GB in 4 hours before.  I was told I used 2 GB between the hours of 1 to 5 PM on July 20, 2015.  I have alerts set on my phone, and I monitor my data usage constantly.  Are you telling Verizon's technology is so outdated that I used 2GB between 1 and 5PM yet I didn't receive any alerts on my usage until 5:59PM, I believe that's what time Kasey stated I called Verizon.  Makes since considering where I was on my commute home from work.

the data reporting is not real time and can be delayed up to 6 hours.

You mentioned video, so we used that as an example of how little 2 GB really is.

I mentioned quite a few things; like, the fact that I have access to WIFI during the day and in the evening, and the fact that even when I had more data, 5GB to be exact, I have never used 2GB in 4 hours.

Thanks for your comment.

I have seen unusual data increases in my plan this month as well.  I have a 1GB plan and have NEVER gone over.  This month (not even half way into my cycle), I saw that I had already reached 70%.  NO WAY.  I use wi-fi at home.  NO VIDEO OR MUSIC streaming/download.  I think Verizon is playing their typical big corporate games to recoup money they have lost due to the competitive market in the last few years.  I already am recording my data times/dates as I record my phone use.  I am preparing a  complaint to the FTC so that, in the future we will eventually see ANOTHER class action suit against Verizon and they will have to repay the millions they will have erroneously charged customers in the future.

DId you upgrade to iOS 9? There is a new setting on by default that will use cellular data if it is better than wifi.  Turn this off.  This has caused many to use more data in the month since it came out.  Settings/Cellular data. scroll all the way to the bottom and turn off wifi assist.

Emoney250, we are happy to guide you along the way in checking that operating system. For iPhone, please go to the Settings, General, About and view the Version. If you see that 9.0.1 or 9.0.2 then you will definitely want to turn off that wi-fi assist feature listed above to help control that data.
