My phone is on wifi at my house, but lately my data usage is up and it is using tons of data while I am sleeping. Why?

I checked my usage  and it is all times I am at home, mostly in bed or getting ready for work in the morning. My data usage has doubled this month and I can't figure out why.

Possibly your wifi disconnects during long periods of inactivity either on the flow of data, or during the phone's sleep period.

This was happening to me too, until I called Verizon wireless and raised hell about it. they tried to say that it could be because I was not connecting to my wireless router at home, which is not true. It miraculously stopped after I raised a stink.
