Hi, I recently bought an unlocked t mobile iPhone 5, but I have Verizon. Will the phone still work with verizon? And if so, what do I have to do to get it working?

To be completely sure, here are the different models of iphone 5:

Model number on the back cover:

  • A1428: iPhone 5 (GSM model)
  • A1429: iPhone 5 (GSM and CDMA model)
  • A1442: iPhone 5 (CDMA model, China)

(from Apple support website)

So seeing as your iphone was a TMobile device, which would mean it has to be GSM capable, this phone is either an A1428 or A1429. If it is the A1429, that means it also will support CDMA, so you should be good to go on Verizon. If it is the A1428, not so much.

So yeah, just take a look at the back of your phone, and you shall find the answers you seek.

A verizon sim...as long the phone isnt locked via icloud u just need a verizon sim. There is a chance that the phone will need to be unlcoked by t-mobile to be used on the verizon network if the sim doesnt work on the phone.

No, a T-mobile iPhone 5 will not work on the Verizon network no matter what you do. Verizon uses CDMA for voice and this is disabled on the T-mobile phones. There is no way to turn it on.

Things may be different for iPhone 6, but for every iPhone before, including the 5, you cannot go from T-mobile or AT&T or Sprint for that matter to Verizon. You can take a Verizon iPhone 5 to T-mobile and AT&T (but not Sprint), just not the other way around.

Weth however was correct as I find now, assuming the phone was sold originally by T-mobile, as the A1429 as I now find does not support the full speed of T-mobile's LTE, so T-mobile would only sell the A1428.

Thanks for the question though, I've learned quite a bit by researching this answer.

Correction: A1429 does not support T-mobile's LTE bands whatsoever.
