How do I unlock my iPhone 4S after I have upgraded to an iPhone 6 and want to sell my old phones?

I understand selling a device you no longer need, norm4u. Once you have activate your iPhone 6, your previous device will no longer be active on your account. Also if you are selling the phone to a non-VZW buyer, your iPhone 4S cannot be unlocked. It is important that if you intend on selling the phone you turn off Find My iPhone and disable iCloud.
