iPhone 6 - lost all my Notes
celkins143

Verizon support recommended a total reset (erase all content and settings) because my huge iCloud photo was hogging all available space and I could put just a tiny number of pics on my phone instead. great now I have just a few pics, but all my Notes are now gone. Can I retrieve them from iCloud somehow? (I'm a dummy, need specific instructions)

If you restore from a backup (iCloud or one on your computer) then yes...you will get all of that info back on your device. If your issue is with photos that are stored via your iCloud photo album try looking at this link to see if it helps. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204570

Again, scroll down and you will see "How do I turn off iCloud Photo Library on just one device?". Look at that info to see if it will correct your issue.

I am sure you are a very smart person, celkins143. Keeping track of all this technology is our job. There are a couple of things that we can try real quick. First, please go to Notes and press the back arrow on the upper left. Do you see any of your notes there? Have you already re added your email accounts as some Notes will automatically back up to your emails? Did you back your device up to iTunes as well as iCloud? I am sure we can get your Notes back.

Take a look at this link from Apple. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203768

If you scroll down you will see the section on iCloud notes. In general, if you restore your device from an iCloud backup you should receive all of your notes that were backed up to it.

this is great news, I really wish I had not lost all the Notes, and yet ....

First, please go to Notes and press the back arrow on the upper left. Do

you see any of your notes there? Have you already re added your email

accounts as some Notes will automatically back up to your emails? Did you

back your device up to iTunes as well as iCloud? I am sure we can get your

Notes back.

1. I

pressed the back arrow from Notes - I do not see any of my old notes there

(all 142 of them)

2. I have re added my email account (I use the gmail app), I didn't know

that some Notes automatically get backed up to my email

3. I usually back up to iTunes, only recently did I back up to iCloud (at

suggestion of a Verizon tech)

the recent V tech said 'don't use option to back up from icloud; that's

what caused problem in the first place. just rebuild you phone from a clean

erase'.

to tell the truth - I just plugged in phone to computer again, opened

iTunes, and message says 'would I like to set up this phone as a new phone

or restore all info from a previous back up?' (June 25, 2016).

I'm not sure what to choose.

a - if I keep 'set up as a new phone', I'll definitely not retrieve old

Notes.

b - if I choose 'restore', I'll probably get all data from recent back up

to iCloud and then I'll be using too much space again (I have 22,000 photos

on iCloud!). I only want to have 30 pics or so to show on phone, not all

22,000! I have a special folder that should be all I need on iPhoto.
