Opening your own account is an exciting step, nickball12! With regards to transferring your number to your own account, that is definitely possible as long as the current account is in good standing. This is accomplished by requesting a service through customer service called an Assumption of Liability. This allows you to take over your phone line. If you are currently upgrade eligible, you are able to purchase your new device with a two year contract and move it over. If you are looking to do an Edge purchase for your next phone, it is best to complete the Assumption of Liability first.  http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/my-verizon-faqs/ Find more info on AOL towards the middle of the page of the provided link.
