my boyfriend gave me his old iphone 5 so i can activate it through a different network. hes a verizon customer. i went to activate it elsewhere but they said that the sim card is locked. i just wanted to know if you guys can help me with that and how much

What network did you to go with?

iPhone 5 comes unlocked from Verizon, so it does not need to be unlocked. The only network that would not work with the Verizon iPhone 5 is Sprint or any of the MVNOs that use Sprint's network. If it is a Sprint network or something that uses Sprint, my understanding is it will not work and there is nothing you can do to make it work.
