upgrading from 7+ to XS maxx

I currently have an iphone 7+, My wife has an iphone 6s. I ordered an XS maxx on my wife's line (because she was eligible for an upgrade). Verizon shipped me the XS maxx and a new sim card, they should be here tomorrow. My plan is to make the new XS maxx MY new phone. Then I will hand my 7+ down to my wife. My question is, do I need to bring the phones into a Verizon store to get everything transferred properly? Can I just move my sim card into the new XS maxx and activate that on my line? Then use the new sim card in my old 7+ to activate it on my wifes line? or what is the procedure that will work for getting both phones activated on the proper line?

drone23, getting a new phone is exciting! I am looking forward to the day when I am able to order the new iPhone XS Max. We want to make sure the activation process is a smooth one for you. Due to liability concerns a store location can not transfer information from one phone to the other.

There will be activation instructions in the box. It will be best to use the new SIM card that comes with the phone.

First you will need to ensure the information that is on both your and your wife’s phone is backed up. This can be done via iTunes, iCloud,( http://spr.ly/6589D2bhT)  or Verizon Cloud http://spr.ly/6580D2bhp)

Ensure that Find My iPhone is turned OFF on your iPhone 7 Plus prior to activating it on your wife’s line (http://spr.ly/6582D2bhn)

The SIM card that is in your wife’s current iPhone 6s (http://spr.ly/6583D2bhX)  is compatible with the iPhone 7 Plus (http://spr.ly/6584D2bhk), so you can transfer her SIM card to that phone once you have the iPhone XS Max activated on your line.

You can use the SIM card from the iPhone 7+ in the iPhone XS Maxx. You can use the SIM card from your wife's iPhone 6s in the iPhone 7+. Before switching SIM cards, you should backup your iCloud and other data from your current phone and restore it on the iPhone XS Maxx. Remove the Find My iPhone from the iPhone 7+ and factory reset it. Next, backup your wife's phone to her separate iCloud and Apple ID account. Then you restore your wife's info to iPhone 7+. Afterwards you can remove the Find My iPhone on the iPhone 6s and factory reset it. All of this can be done in the comfort of your home where you verify the data you need transferred to the new phone and the rest can be backed up to your home computer or cloud storage.
