On average, what's the lifespan of the battery and when it does die, can it be replaced ?

How long have you had your phone? It should last the lifetime you have the phone. You'll see a drop of charge over the years, unless it's faulty it should easily last 2+ years.

I can't remember when I purchased it from Verizon, I have misplaced my receipt. I'm guessing it's about 3 or 4 years old.

Is it no longer holding a good charge? Have you ever Factory reset your phone?

At the end of the day it would usually show about 50%, but now it shows about 30%. I was told a factory reset would wipe out all my apps, settings and contacts, so no I have not done a factory reset.

It will. You'll need to go through all of your files and do a bit of a clean up and then back up contacts, pictures, messages etc. to your icloud. If you've never done one and have your phone 4 years, this could help your device hold a charge. You'd then have to set up your device again how you like, but it might be worth a shot if the battery drain is not tolerable.

MiiHere is right. To me, 30-50% at the end of the day is real good. The 5s came out in Sept 2013 so it is less than 2 years old. I constantly tweak settings on my device to get more battery life out of it. Spotify and FB tend to be my biggest battery hogs besides the display. I had it on my iPhone 5 and loved it. Extra battery plus extra space for photos. Then you can trade your current device in when it is time to upgrade without having to spend the money for the battery at this time. Then sell your case and bam!! lol

Considering the 5S was released Sept 20, 2013, I doubt it is more than 1 3/4 years old. You are really off on that estimation

Batteries on iPhones are good, and with proper care (not allowing to discharge <10% frequently, not keeping on charger all the time) should last about 4 years.
