Cannot text a previous iphone user

I have recently had problems texting people that have switched from an iphone to a droid.  I can receive texts and calls from them, but any messages I send to them are "not delivered".  I've tried deleting the contacts, hoping to erase them as an iphone, but that doesn't work.  Suggestions?

What model phone do you have?  If you have an iPhone and the other user still have their previous iPhone devices, have them sign into their iTunes account and remove their iPhone from their profile.  This will disassociate their iPhone with the iMessage service.  Let me know how this works out for you.  Thanks!
