Device Unlocking for Traveling Overseas

Hi

I know that phones are automatically unlocked after 60 days; however what if I am travelling overseas on the 55th day and I need my phone to be unlocked so I can use a local SIM card in Europe?

Is there any way to unlock before the 60 days?

In addition, what starts the 60 day clock?  Is it the day of purchase or the day of activation?

Please advise

Thanks!

Hi barry14358.  I bet you are excited to travel internationally. You have a good question about the unlock prior to 60 days. We can take a look at the account and review the best options so you will stay connected overseas. Please reply to the private message that will follow to continue in a secure chat to discuss account specific details privately.

Hello Verizon Customer Service

I just learnt that phones are automatically unlocked after 60 days but I am travelling overseas on the 45th day and I need my phone to be unlocked so I can use a local SIM card in Asia. FYI, I am no longer a Verizon wireless customer but my account is completely paid off.

Is there any way to unlock before the 60 days?

Please advice!

Thank You.

It *used* to be possible if you filed a SIM lock appeal to get your phone unlocked a little sooner for situations like getting deployed by the military overseas and you've paid off the phone completely.  Not sure if this still applies, but if you are the original owner of the phone and don't have any outstanding balance due to Verizon, can't hurt to contact Tech Support to try.  Otherwise, you're stuck having to get an international service plan added to your Verizon account in order to have limited service overseas on a Verizon phone.

Hello Verizon Customer Service

I just learned that phones are automatically unlocked after 60 days but I am traveling in Bali today for a month.  I purchased the phone 2 weeks ago. I need my phone to be unlocked so I can use a local SIM card in Indonesia. My phone is paid off.

Is there any way to unlock before the 60 days?

Please advice!

Thanks,

Ben

Hello,

Similar to others in the thread I’m traveling soon and want to use an international eSIM to communicate while away. I’ve had the device and the service for years. Is there a way to expedite the unlocking process?

Hi Verizon service,

Need your attention and check.

My phone was unlocked long ago, somehow I transferred and moved to Taiwan.

When I tried to use local SIMs here, I found they cannot register.

The phone keep says this phone needs Verizon service.

I called the Verizon customer service, and you ensure IMEI is clean and unlocked.

Somehow this is locked in the phone not in your system?

Please check and help further.

I will email or send you my IMEI, please contact me.

Or any expert fellows or Verizon gigs who know how to solve this problem, please let me know it.

Thanks all,

Did you use to be a Verizon customer, and bought the phone at Verizon?  If so, there may be a way to unlock the phone provided you have plenty of evidence you purchased the phone legitimately.

If you have never used Verizon and bought this phone somewhere else, sadly, there is no way to unlock the phone.  This kind of thing happens all the time with phones that have shady histories.

We know how important it is to have your phone available brytonyang. In this case, all of our devices unlock automatically after 60 days of being active with the Verizon service. Keep in mind that it is possible that your device is not compatible with the network you are trying to activate it with. When did you purchase your device? Was this for a postpaid or prepaid account?
