Have to carry two iPhones overseas

I activated my Verizon lines several years ago on a new iPhone 12 Pro purchases where I was stationed overseas. Although at that time Verizon's system didn't recognize the IMEI, the SIM cards worked and there were no problems. So now, still stationed overseas, I decided to buy a new iPhone 15 Pro.
Since where I am stationed I have a local number and want both my Verizon number and local number in the same phone, I have to buy a local iPhone 15 Pro that does *not* have eSIM. The carriers in this country do not have eSIM service. I figured there should be no problem as my current Verizon numbers have SIM cards -- the same ones I have been using for many years.
So when I enter my Verizon SIM in the new phone, it immediately cancels suspends service stating that "Your device has been reported lost or stolen." This is impossible since I bought it just ten minutes prior in the Apple Store. Come to find out, Verizon incompetently will not recognize iPhones sold in many countries outside the USA. To use my US number and my local number, I am forced to buy and carry two iPhones. How idiotic is that!!!
Verizon staff dismally fail to understand the issue and offer no solution. So I found my own solution -- I ported my numbers out. And I have encouraged the 5,000+ others in my command to dump Verizon, too.
