IPhone 13 - "dual Sim", but what does it start with? Sim Card or ESim??

Daughter is about to study overseas in Spain.  She has an iPhone13 which is supposed to have "dual Sim" capabilities.  So if she wants to buy and install a local Sim card in Spain, how do we know if she currently has a physical Sim card (for her regular US number) that she needs to remove, or if she currently has an eSim for her US number?  In other words, how can we retain BOTH Sims on her phone so it will work with her original current US phone # as well as with a local Spain number she will get with the local SIM card?  And how does she control this?  Also, can she get the Spanish SIM card in the US before she leaves, and have it installed?  Any advice appreciated.  Additionally, we may activate the International plan on her phone to make sure all bases are covered, but if we can avoid the $100/month extra, we would love to.  THANKS

How exciting for your daughter! There is A LOT to cover here. Some info we can provide right here. As we do not sell international SIM's for overseas carriers we do not know what the options would be for obtaining a SIM. The options for adding international to her current plan are here: https://www.verizonwireless.com/solutions-and-services/international-travel/ To see what SIM she is currently utilizing we will send a Private Note as we will need account access.

Melissa, I can only access the Verizon forums from my PC.  When I clicked on the private message link, it did not load.  I also do not use the Verizon app on my phone (my eyes can't read on the phone very well).  Can you please complete the check of my daughter's SIM card setup on her phone, then communicate back here in the forum?  Thank you.

@vzw_customer_support   Melissa, I believe I was able to grant access so you can check her SIM setup ([edited for privacy]).  Thank you
