Iphone 4 s no volume! No music, youtube, Pandora

The volume slider disappeared.  Cannot listen to music, watch a video, anything with sound, unless I use headphones.  Sounds like an iphone problem.  Did all the internet recommendations:  reset and restore factory settings.  Cleaned ports, nothing worked.  Any ideas?  Live hours from the nearest apple store so that is not an option.

above the volume up and down buttons is a silent mode switch - try flipping it the opposite direction.

Thanks for visiting our forums as well as viewing internet recommendations since you are so far away from the closest store. Once you tried the silence switch, was there any luck with the sounds?
Has the phone been exposed to any moisture or physical damage that may affect the sound?

I am having the same problem. Checked all my settings and everything is ON. When I try to turn up the volume on the side of the phone the RINGER does not have any bars below it to indicate if it is going up or down. Can only use headphones to listen to music. Can't hear my typing when texting, when locking the phone, when an email is sent. It will ring for an incoming call and I can hear just fine when I answer it.

It is a defect. Got a new phone under warranty. Good luck

Hey TamH13,

Thanks for the info! There's a switch slighty above the volume key. This needs be moved upwards towards the phone screen. Once the switch is moved a "bell" and volume indicators will appear on the screen. Are the Lock Sounds and Keyboard clicks selected within Sound Settings?
