Keeping the unlimited plan

Rumor has it that if you have the unlimited plan and you upgrade to the iPhone 5 that you can't keep your plan.  Is that true? I tried calling and there is nothing but busy signals because the iPhone 5 preorder started today.

Yes it is true as of July or so if you take discount pricing you will lose your plan for good. If you pay full retail or add a line you won't lose your plan.

As stated, yes this is true. The info was posted on VZW's website at one point but I honestly couldn't tell you if it is still there. You can try to do a CS Chat on the website if you want someone from VZW to verify. It is why so many people with the unlimited plan are opting to pay full retail or add a line to keep their plan. Other options would be to use someone else's upgrade if they don't mind or buy your iPhone 5 from another source (although at this time you're not going to get it for much less than the full retail more than likely).

As others have said, as of the end of June when the Share Everything plan was introduced, the only way to keep your unlimited data (regardless of what phone you're buying) is to pay full retail or buy it off ebay or the like.  If you get a subsidized phone, you'll lose your unlimited data and will either have to choose a tiered data package (i.e., $30 for 2 gb) if you want to keep your current calling plan (assuming it's not an old plan) or you can choose to switch to the Share Everything.  More info. can be found here:

There's also A LOT of threads about this on this forum, if you want to do a search.  There also are a lot of threads about the $30 upgrade fee that started this spring, if you aren't familiar with it.

i think losing my unlimited data is total BS. why should i keep with verizon at all then. to be honest thats the only reason why i have not switched companies and wife myself have not got a plan together. we both currently have unlimeted data. i am curious why i was not told about this last month when i was called and asked about my plan and why i havent upgraded. shouldnt the person who was talking to told me that i would lose my unlimited data when i upgrade
