What does it mean when on songs, it displays a cloud with a red arrow going down? This is next to the artist.

It means that that song is not physically on the device but that you can download it to the device from the cloud.  (Hence the down arrow on the cloud.)

You can hide those songs by changing the settings if you don't want to see them.
