Question regarding move from AT&T to VZW for iPhone 5

I'm going to be switching my number from AT&T to Verizon for the iPhone 5, and I plan to order my phone from Verizon. As part of this process, does anything happen that will deactivate my AT&T phone/number while waiting for my Verizon phone to arrive?

I know that, if I order from Apple, my AT&T phone/number won't be deactivated until I get the phone and turn it on (and start the sign up process).

I'm happy to hear that you're switching over to us, jamesghill! Welcome to the family! You can port over your numbers during the pre-order process. However, the port will not be officially completed until the iPhone 5s are activated. As a result, your AT&T devices should continue to work as normal until the change is completed.
